The latest Shortwave Report (June 20) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:54) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice Of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- Diplomatic relations between Cuba and Spain have plummeted, with the closure of a Spanish Cultural Center in Havana, and Castro calling the Prime Minister a bandit and a fascist. Heroin will be distibuted to long-term addicts in the Netherlands. Argentina would like to recover the Falklands Islands from the British. The ICC in the Hague is now open for business in prosecuting war crimes, which has made the US administration anxious. 3 Iranians set themselves on fire in Paris to protest French Police arresting 150 Iranian opposition members. Student protests in Iran have continued for over a week, and the government says it is a result of American manipulation. Belgium is planning on further diluting its War Crimes law, under pressure from the US.
From Russia- First an observation about US pressure to limit the development of Belgium’s law, allowing the prosecution of War Crimes. Then a commentary about the US announcement that US soldiers will remain in Iraq until at least next Spring. The soldiers are seen as invaders rather than liberators, creating the current violence.
From China- A review of the attack on Tony Blair in the British House of Commons for what many perceive as his dishonesty in presenting the case for invading Iraq. This review speculates that Blair may have to resign.
From Cuba- Relief agencies in Afghanistan have warned that the situation outside Kabul has gotten to the point that people are reminiscing about the good old days under the Taliban. Human rights groups are criticizing the US federal court ruling that allows the government to withold names and information about arrestees.
