Tighter controls are planned for an expected 23,000 visitors to Stonehenge
for the summer solstice.

New restrictions this year will mean visitors will not be able to get onto
the site until 0200 BST and will be banned from bringing sleeping bags. The
stones will be open from 0200 BST to 12 noon on Saturday 21 June, and access

"I am surprised that I accepted so much so quietly.........The laws curtailing our rights were introduced discreetly, falling imperceptibly around us.........like gentle snow. Stonehenge Acoustic Free Festival
and Tribal Gathering
June 21st - 23rd 2003

Celebrate the Solstice and protest at English Heritage's decision to open Stonehenge on the wrong day!

On Saturday 21st. June the temporary free Solstice car park at Stonehenge will be open from 00.01 hrs. to 14.00 hrs. (last admittance 11.00 hrs.) Free access to The Stones (subject to security searches) will only be permitted from 02.00hrs. to 12.00 hrs.

Unfortunately the Solstice is at 20.10 hrs. on Saturday and the Solstice dawn occurs on Sunday June the 22nd. Campaigners intend to protest at the decision to deny access with music fun and agit prop Morris dancing. They are demanding full restoration of their traditional rights of free access to Stonehenge and provision of land for camping while attending the Midsummer Solstice Celebration from the 21st to 23rd June 2003.

Amplified music is banned by English Heritage but acoustic musicians and groups wanting to participate in the celebration should contact

Seize The Day, Headmix, Celtica, Tarantism, Judge Trev, 2000DS and Nik Turner (of Hawkwind) are some of the performers who have already agreed to play. Bring blankets, food, water, a drum, a guitar, what you expect to find and join in the fun for the future of the Stonehenge Midsummer Solstice Celebration.

(Avebury car park is to be closed for further entry on Friday 21st. June or earlier if full and no extra land is to be provided there for parking)
