Report from the Intergalactic village, debates, general situation

A brief account from Annemasse: it is rather difficult to have a clear picture of how many people there is in the camping sites, as we far away from each other. In Annemasse there is the Intergalactic village and the Vaaag, but as well people arriving from Lausanne and Geneva.

Since yesterday lively discussions about how to make the blockades have taken place -
The options are three:
Lausanne is the key place, blockade of the people taking part in the G8 could be succesful, the problem is from what we know here in Annemasse, this is the camping site with less people and not as well organized as the others.

It is therefore that busses are being organized to travel in this direction. Yesterday there was an assembly in Vaaag, however, people preferred to travel to Lausanne (the distance between cities is considerably).

The second option is of blocking Geneva: but it seems out of the question at this stage as we have received information in the last hours that people taking part in the G8 are travelling with boat to Geneva, the blockade would in that case only become symbolic.

Finally; there is the possibility of blocking the highway in Annemasse, it serves as the connection with Switzerland. This will stop workers and the supporting infrastructure to arrive to the G8. From this place there will also be a demonstration, in which they expect more people arriving to take part in the demo.

Later today we will have an assembly in the disobedient neighbourhood, at the Intergalactika village, in order to decide where to make the blockade and how.

Yesterday there was a series of debates during the day, open forums with speakers and spontaneous meetings throughout the day in the village. We also had a party; generally the atmosphere in the village is good, although the information circulating is sometimes confusing because we are not well connected to other cities.

There was a rumour yesterday evening that there busses driving with extra material to Evian, and there was a spontaneous blockade organized. On arrival to the highway it turned out that it was a false alarm. Due to the false rumours circulating there was a call for a general assembly, to clarify the enormous amounts of rumours circulating around, and discuss strategies how to act - not rushed and to better coordinated.

As well, yesterday a rather large delegation from Spain/Catalonia arrived, this group added up to the thousands of Germans and Frenchmen already here, but we are still missing the presence of the Italians.

In this moment a group from the village is moving towards the lake: where a water action is planned – with swimming caps covered with the flags of different southern nations and another 8 people swimming dressed to the G8 ministers. I hope they will not freeze – they say the water is ice cold!
