update on the delegation to irak and palestine

have been on the phone to a friend who is part of this human rights delegation to bagdad and palestine

ya basta and the disobedients have sent a delegation of about 40 people to bagdad and palestine with the intention of building bridges between them and various sectors of civil society there; they will be networking with human rights groups, doctors, the newly formed indymedia bagdad, and will be taking accounts of the situation on the ground; the visit to palestine is suppoed to be very brief, in effect a show of solidarity with the palestinian people and all the peace actvists who have been there, in defiance of israel's decision to make it next to impossible to enter the occupied territories for human rights work.
i have just been on the phone with a friend who is part of the delegation; the latest news is that all 40 of them are now stuck in no man's land between jordan and irak; they got through the jordanian checkpoint, but are now being held by the american authorities administering the iraki side of the border; they were given no reason for not being allowed to enter; all their passports were taken and have been given back; a politician from venice who is part of the delegation is trying to get in touch with the italian ambassador in jordan. the delegation is in good spirits for the moments.
