LAUSANNE, info on tear gas ( translated from :  http://www.indymedia.ch/itmix/2003/05/9604.shtml )

Some informations concerning tear gas usage by the police in Lausanne. In case of a problem, police will use hoses that create drops of water and tear gas.

decontamination center :

5 fixe centers and one mobile unit will were installed to decontaminate victimes of tear gas. The mobil units will move toward "hot spots" and can treat up to 50 people per hour. In case of overflow, demonstrators will be transfer to the fixe centers by the city fire brigade.

All these center are managed by the CHUV (Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois, -I beleive-), therefore they are politically neutral.

Affected demonstrators will have to dress with paper clothes. Their personal items and clothes will be put in a plastic bag. This procedure is free of charge.

Gas tears used in Lausanne are :

- Securitas will have peper spray.
-Police will use either tear gas grenades or water + gas-tear hoses but not directly against the demonstrators.

according to the environmental office, the cenario of the farmer's demonstration in Berne where people end up with serious burns due to non-conform gas should not be reproduce here. Gas apparently have been control and are conform.

Also :

in the unlikely event of a terrorist attack (chemical or biological) these decontamination centers are ready to receive us.
