Cycle couriers from all over Europe will converge in East London for a weekend of competition and fun and partying in celebration of bike culture

Dozens of couriers from 10 Euro countries, including a queer team from Berne, Switzerland will partake in fun and competition this weekend based around the Eastway cycle circuit in Stratford.

According to media officer Ted Dave 'We'll be encouraging competitors to dress up as tranvestism is a common motif'.

Bill Chidley, Chair of LBMA stated that 'Messengers are sometimes percieved as a nuisance. We are keen to promote greater respect for more vunerable road users among our members and to encourage all messengers to abide by the Highway Code. Cycling is a vital part of this city's transport solution, and the courier community as its most visible exponent is determined to be part of that!'

Robin Superkid (vice-co-ordinator) made the point that 2003 will be bigger and better than the world championships (last held in London in 1994) with a more diverse and stronger international community of messengers united through the advent of the internet and cheap air fares.

Saturday-Monday are the main days of competition, with a specially constructed 'Babylondinium' in which the coveted individual prize will be decided this will test messenger-specific skills such as speed of collection, consolidation and delivery, as well as good old fashion speed in a straight line, there are also male and female individual prizes.

Menace

Will there be a culture of getting off our pavements then?

I'll support cyclists anyday if they respect the rights of those who use the pavements (especially young children).

Otherwise they are another self-righteous selfish bunch (with kinky clothes and silly helmets).

Keep off our pavements and take your speedometers elsewhere (especially the "minority" of rogue cyclists ;)) !!!

Bloody pedestrians

Dunno Menace, will there be a culture of pedestrians not walking out in front of bicycles without bothering to look where they're going?

Dunno no ammo for syclist rights

Self-righteous cyclists are always a pest (pest with ridiculous tight outfits that make them look like black free-range chickens) to motorists.

Dunno about pedestrians - but they are a darn sight better than cyclists (yes, stoopid polystyrene-packaged heads and some with even more stoopid shades - bluebottle flies wno are a bigger pain than bluebottle flies).

At least pedestrians don't speed around on pavements like selfish bluebottle flies on con-job "latest superduper light frame" two-wheelers.

And both motorists and pedestrians have to suffer that eyesore of bluebottles walking around with one bleeding bicycle wheel. Look like recycled (no pun) roman footsoldiers (with state-of-the-art shields).

To make the point of my dislike, I once trapped a serial nuisance pavement cyclist by poking a rod through his wheel and watching him fly cheaper than Easyjet. When he landed (and he didn't land well) nobody bothered to help him into a coffin.

But there were plenty of sniggers.
