urgent please pick up the phone and call

We have just had news that the police in Wamena have called in Wamena elder Elly Togodly again. He must report to the police station in Wamena at 9.00am (WIT / local time), we believe the police will try to make him a suspect in connection with the raid on the Arms Store. Elly is just a normal Tribal Elder and we know he has no connection with this. Previously, Papuans who have been arrested in connection with this have been beaten, tortured and even killed. We fear greatly for the safety of Elly Togodly.

Earlier this year the police put out a similar arrest warrant for Elly Togodli which was later dismissed as a computer error (! following protests. This indicates two important things:
1. The spurious nature of the grounds on which they want to arrest Elly
2. That protesting against his arrest can stop the police!!

So please find time today to telephone the Wamena ploice and stop anything happening to Elly before it is too late.
It is best to ring between 7am and 9am (WIT / Local time) which is from 8.30pm to 10.30pm (GMT / UK) TONIGHT (22 May).

Please call:
Head of Wamena Police: +62 969 31072
or if nobody answers call:
Ploice Station Wamena: +62 969 31110

The arrest was ordered by IPD Dipo Alam officer number NRP 7810923
The order was brought to Elly by Bribtu Maksud officer number NRP 72090592

Just to add to the earlier statement about Elly Togodly, we spoke to him earlier in the week and he relayed a message to us from the Papuan community in and around Wamena. He said a massive "Koteka Thank You" to everyone whon had helped raise money at the AKE which has now been sent to the familiy of Yapenas Murib who was strangled to death and to Paulina Itlay who was tortured by the military and to other families of Papuans who have been arrested and beaten in the recent military crackdown.

Elly is a trusted member of the community who can speak on peoples behalf and said the warmest of Thank You's to everyone involved and everyone who gave money.

Wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa!

Please phone to help Elly
