UK Government plans to force GM products on citizens

Conformation of the government's concept of particapatory democracy. Freedom to dissent quietly then submit. Whatever happened to a die-hard belief in market forces? Supply and Demand anyone?

BBC: The government says it may be forced to allow farmers to grow genetically-modified (GM) crops in Britain even if the public does not want them.

The environment minister Michael Meacher told the BBC a ban on GM crops would be illegal unless there is scientific proof that they harm people or the environment.

The latest polls show only 14% of people in Britain approve of GM food...

No mention of a corporate takeover of the food chain though, which is the real problem.

Illegal?

Illegal under what British, European or international law?

It may be actionable under GATT, but GATT has no legal (or moral) status, being simply a method for ensuring the continuing dominance of the First World over the Third.

So the US could try to get approval from GATT to put some sanctions on us if we outlaw Monsanto GM foods? So what? Fuck 'em, I say.

Your Tony seems to do just about whatever our George wants done. Ivade Iraq, foist corporate "food" on people, invade Cuba next, I suppose.

Well at least there will be work for the kids if they want to be cops, troops or jail guards.

Its no more 'anti-science' to be opposed to GM than it is 'anti-science' to oppose dropping sarin on people. GM babe, i bet theres some people you don't like, like me for instance. So are you 'anti-people'? Your childish logic is an affront to science, which ordinarily seeks to establish benefits for a course of action rather than saying "we're gonna do this unless there is consensus otherwise", and then hire a few labs to spurt out consensus preventing propaganda, Monsanto, i'm looking in your direction.

Actually, there was the scandal of monsanto inventing fake citizens to lobby scientific journals to remove valid arguments against gm technology (and there are many). . . how much are they paying you, GM Babe, if that is your real name?
