Galloway banned by Oxford City Council

A meeting with George Galloway at Oxford Town Hall has been cancelled by the town hall manager, aparently with the support some of Labour Councilors.
From the Oxford Mail
Organisers are trying to find an alternative venue for Mr Galloway, who was suspended from the Labour party over allegations he took money from Saddam Hussein.
He was due to talk at an anti-war meeting in Oxford Town Hall on May 16 at 7pm.
But town hall managers pulled the plug on the event on May 13, after they found out he and two other speakers would be attending.
Liberal Democrat city councillor Fiyaz Mughal had booked the council chamber, which holds about 100 people, on behalf of Oxford Students Stop the War Coalition.
Sue Scarrott, of the town hall bookings department, said: "We would not have accepted this booking if we had been told that these speakers were coming in the first place.
"We thought it was a quiet meeting between the councillor and some students."
Mr Mughal claimed he found out on May 12 that Mr Galloway would be taking part and said he had not realised that so many people had been invited to attend.
OSSWC said Mr Galloway agreed to attend two months ago after he addressed more than 500 anti-war supporters at a meeting in the town hall in February.
Mr Galloway, 49, dubbed a traitor after reportedly urging Arab nations to rise up against British troops during the war against Iraq, was not available for comment.
He is due to talk about British and American involvement in the regeneration of Iraq following the war.
He and author Milan Rai, of the Active Resistance to the Roots of War group, and Ghada Razuki, of Stop the War Coalition, are also expected to question why no weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq.
Rick Muir, Labour city councillor for Hinksey ward, said: "Many of us regret that George has been abandoned by our party without any proof of guilt."
But Mick McAndrews, Labour city councillor for Barton and Sandhills, criticised organisers for giving Mr Galloway the chance to have a "public platform on which to spread his anti-British message".
Mr Galloway, who has stood for Labour in Glasgow Kelvin since 1992, has been suspended from his position as MP pending the outcome of a Government inquiry into his dealings with former Iraqi leaders. He denies all accusations.

Mick McAndrews, Labour city councillor for Barton and Sandhills, said "as a loyal member of the Labour party, I find it unthinkable that people should be allowed their own opinions, let alone to have the affrontery to try to express them in public. To criticise Our Leader in these troubled times is as repugnant as it is treacherous."

Galloway is not "the fucking bosses", he's one of the few MPs with any guts and a leading peace campaigner.
The trouble with headbanging ultra-left holier-than-thou anarchs like yourself is that you can't see the wood for the trees, which you would be better off UP.
Go away and play with your toys/spray some badly spelt graffiti until you sell out and work for daddy and stop wasting everyone's time with your posturing bollocks, negative-boy.

he would love to take a credit for OUR movement, jump on
the bandwagon, become a figurehead etc... So I feel no
particular affinity with him.
HOWEVER, that doesn't excuse what the council are doing,
which is blatantly political, and nothing to do with the
fact that they "didn't realise so many people were coming".
The difficulty is how can we defend Galloway against such
attacks (if indeed we should), while still keeping at arms
length from his odious politics and ego?
Answers on a postcard pls, this is something I'm still
pondering myself...
As for this meeting, let's just have it somewhere else?
PS Calling someone an anarchist shouldn't be considered
an insult :)

But there aren't may perfect beings in this world.
The one thing I do strongly support him for is his call on British troops to disobey orders and refuse to fight an illegal war. Now, I don't care what anyone says, THAT took great political courage--especially for someone in his prominent position in public life as an MP.
His courageous stance is without recent precedent in UK political life. It is on par with the opposition to the First World War by John McClean in Scotland, and Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebenecht in Germany.
Even the otherwise excellent Micheal Moore in the US didn't go that far.
In doing this, Galloway risks everything--including his job and possibly his life. The Establishment is gunning for him--make no mistake about that. That should tell us soemthing.
On this basis, EVERY anti-war activist MUST defend Galloway.
Save your criticisms of him until the witch-hunt is defeated.

I do give a lot of credit to Galloway

'Mr Galloway, 49, dubbed a traitor after reportedly urging Arab nations to rise up against British troops during the war against Iraq...'
Did he? Is so I do give even more credit to this man.
My only problem with Galloway had been for not leaving the undemocratic pigsty in Westminster. Now may be I was wrong with this thinking....if he could fuck the place up by exposign their bullshit a bit more it will be nice.
As for the braindead middle class 'backbone' of Britain who post shit here knowing nothing about the importance of positive international relations being built up by the few like Galloway.... please ask yourselves what Brian has pointed out above.
WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU DONE?

Actually I'm pulling your legs. He can't be 'cos he's totally WRONG! Ha ha!
Just goes to show what a stupid twat he is though. Full of bitterness, preconceptions and stereotypes and lazy generalisation. Sad tosser.
By the way, my use of LONG WORDS does not make me "middle class" - I just paid attention at school when the likes of fuckdaboss were smelling each others fingers.

I have already sent a message of solidarity to the guy, who I feel was pretty brave to say the things he said. But someone needed to say them, and none of us got our views reported on BBC News as a headline. If we show no solidarity with him when he's being gunned for, then the state can more easily move on to the next target, and then the next, and then us!
There's a huge difference between being principled, and being purist/sectarian. I say we should stand firm against the British state and their continued attacks on the poor people of the world, wars of aggression, and perpetration of hatred. Galloway may not be entirely on our side, but he's a lot closer to it than Tony B and the rest of his bastard entourage will ever be. By showing reserved support for Galloway, we make attacks on ourselves less likely, and hopefully help prevent future wars more effectively. Are we in this to stop a war/occupation, or in it to score cheap political points?

stop prejudging people

If that was aimed at me as somebody critical of Galloway,
let me say that I would say that I have done far more to
ACTIVELY oppose this war than Galloway has. I can't give
many more details anonymously.
So please can we all stop judging people ('moron','pretend anarchist', 'stupid pro-labour middle-class asshole', 'stupid pro-labour middle-class asshole','Galloway...
has done more than yu characters...yu are all exposing
your private parts', 'braindead middle class',
'Sad tosser',etc etc) who we know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT.
Then we can have a proper discussion :)
PS have decided I agree with zz above, ie Galloway deserves
our _reserved_ support.

I can respect people being different in their beliefs/politics etc. but they are people only if they display the traits of the common humanitarian touch in us all.
All the rest can fuck off !
I honestly do not want to know this argument about ourside (anarchism?, communism?...) and their side. Anyone and everyone who is human is welcome and Galloway is one.
But shall we pay attention to the original article for ones.
OXFORD FUCKING PIG COUNCIL DOES NOT WANT AN ANTI WAR MEETING HELD BECAUSE THEY ARE PLAYING PIG POLITICS!!!
BUSH and BLAIR INC. ARE MURDEROUS PIGS. THEY HAVE DIRTY BLOOD IN THEIR HAND AND I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR OF THEM IN ANY RELAITVE SCALE OF HUMATIY. VEN FUCKING OXFROND CITY COUNCILLORS FIT IN THIS CATEGORY OF CHILD KILLING PIGS.
So what do we do?
What can we realistically do.
Instead of getting entangled in endless displays of egos why not consider the fact.... Oxford city council is well within any UK dwelling human's reach.
It is not exactly the heart of the Pentagon is it?
Maybe they need to be reminded of their human origins.

the hounding of galloway is just the start of a sustained onslaught against the anti-war movement, and if its not stopped, that is, if galloway is not defended unconditionally, anyone could be next. the establishment has obviously chosen galloway because he is perhaps the most susceptible to criticism prima facie, but whatever his personal limitations, they become secondary right now, and
we should insist that BLAIRS finances and conduct are finally laid out to full scrunity before galloways are.
