For Me

Adam | 11.05.2003 19:30

Concerning job application.

As the title states pretty cearly this is for me and is not a selfless act or opinion as such.

I would like to know about the power company Npower. I have read No Logo and it had a big effect on my views as a to how to be a good citizen.

I beleive I have a very good job opportunity for this firm, though I take ethics into consideration before starting a job. If it's a Shell or Nike, for example, I'm not going, I won't do it. But they are a power comapny and if I'm working for some pour starving person's amphetamines it ain't worth my energy.

Thankyou very much for any repliers out there.

Take care people.

Adam.

try www.corporatewatch.org.uk

If they don't have any info on Npower specifically, they
will at least have tips on how to do your own research.
Then if you find out anything useful I'm sure they'd be
pleased to run it.

Shell and nike happen to be the companies in the spotlight because they are the companies with the biggest profiles. this does not mean they are any worse than others. for instance nike uses sweat shops, is a union buster and commoditises inner city urban culture while at the same time enslaving its inhabitants. but if nike use sweatshops then virtually all highstreet shops will aswell, in order to compete. and shell are bad, but the oil industry is inherently evil, and can only expand by trashing the environment or by trashing the places people live.

As a large corporation, NTL is a driver of the capitalist model, so as an anticapitalsit i would not work for them, but that is just me. also, if you have been offered a good job with them, it will probably be managerial of some sort won't it? this means bossing people around, and essentially having a coercice influence on other people, thereby stripping their freedom.

just some thoughts, but i know little about the NTL specifically.

They have some sort of joint-project with Greenpeace and are one of the only big power companies that are actively promoting renewable generation. They still burn coal and use plutonium though...

Better power company is unit[e] - for about £8 more per quarter, you too can have 100% renewably generated electricity!
