The London Social Forum meets tomorrow (Thurs 8th) at 6pm, Room H101, London School of Economics (LSE). Please use the Old Building entrance. Go to the 2nd floor, then cross over to Connaught House, room H101. For a map for directions, go to:  http://www.londonsocialforum.org

A group of interested organizations and individuals has begun planning a London Social Forum. Around 30 people attended the first planning meeting on March 21st 2003 and a second meeting was held on April 15th. Dates of the next meetings are below.

Thursday's meeting is going to be an important meeting. We need various groups to be set up as soon as possible and to harness the interest and enthusiam being generated. Whether you have been before or this will be your first time, please do come along.

The room is confirmed as H101 at LSE and we will be starting at 6.30pm. All items for the agenda should be sent to Jill at:  j.l.timms@lse.ac.uk

What is a social forum?
A Social Forum is an open meeting place for reflective thinking, democratic debate of ideas, formulation of proposals, free exchange of experiences and interlinking for effective action, by groups and movements of civil society that are opposed to neoliberalism and to domination of the world by capital and any form of imperialism, and are committed to building a planetary society directed towards fruitful relationships among Humankind and between it and the Earth.

The London Social Forum has been inspired by the global movement which began with the World Social Forum (WSF) in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2001. WSF's vision is "Another World Is Possible". At our first meeting, the nature of the proposed London Social Forum was discussed, as well as the types of issues it would take up. We also agreed to meet every three weeks to continue the planning process.

To participate simply come to any meeting listed below and on the website, you’ll be very welcome:

See  http://www.nadir.org/nadir/initiativ/agp/free/wsf/ for critiques of the World Forum Process. If the liberals and authoritarian (pro-state capitalist) leftists have their way, the process will be an immense waste of effort, and undermine the work of those who have helped create a libertarian, decentralised and grassroots anti-capitalist movement. If left-libertarians get involved and prevent NGO's, charities etc from taking control, then its possible that the forums could become an embryonic form of global governance. Get involved!

Thinking of setting up similar social forums elsewhere in the UK?

A new website has been set up to act as a co-ordinating and promotional tool for social forums around the UK. This thing has only been going a week but there has already been talk of forums starting in Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Keele and Nottingham (besides the London one).

If you live anywhere in the UK and are thinking about setting up a social forum in your area, post a message or contribute an article on this site and help us keep track how this thing is moving.

Lets build this thing :o)
