Gaza City - An 18-month-old Palestinian boy was shot in the neck on Wednesday as Israeli forces guarding a Jewish settlement opened fire on the refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip town, Palestinian security and medical officials said.
Eliyan al-Bashiti was in critical condition after soldiers manning the Gadid settlement opened fire on Khan Yunis, the scene of frequent exchanges of fire between Palestinian gunmen and Israeli troops, the officials said.
Palestinian security officials said the toddler had been in his home when he was hit.
Israeli military sources said that Palestinian militants had fired five home-made mortar rounds on the neigbouring settlement of Neve Dekalim earlier in the day, but could not immediately confirm that troops had returned fire.
