UK Social Forum

Dannyboy | 03.05.2003 02:30

We need a UK social forum...

The social forum movement has achieved much in solidifying and defining the global justice movment worldwide.

We need this to happen in every country,on every continent. People getting together in a grassroots gathering to plan and implement an alternative to the existing power structures.

We cannot let the war-profiteers have their way.

The world has been taught a lesson in Iraq. Might is right. Surely there are enough people in this country to contest the powers that have been forcing this lesson down people's necks.

Come on people, lets organise this thing.

I propose Manchester as a venue, Porto Alegre as a model. I have a web server and the time to start this ball rolling. Is anyone willing to help me out?

If you want to get involved - mail me at:

ourangadan AT hushmail DOT com

Another world is possible.

Another War is Possible

Yeah, we really need another platform for leftwing parties to canvas votes and recruits and to show case their trendily repackaged but still stale ideologies.

We really need a set up like Porte Allegre - where naked protestors supporting indigenous people are baton charged by socialist policemen-

we really need platforms with speakers telling us how our stuggles can be channelled into putting them into power so they can represent us and then jet off to do deals with the capitalists and militarists-

we really need to marginalise and minimalise any people or groups promoting practices of direct democracy, autonomy, and revolutionary self-theory within the movement of movements

we really need people to forget that the greatest lesson from the failure of the workers movement of the twentieth century is that all repesentation is alienation

we really need to build the paper- sell the party

Oh yeah great , like the ESF in Florence which is still being use by Cluadio Martini and his delinquenti di sinistra (DS) and their cohorts in crime the italian version of the greens (vermi) as part of their promo campaign for a fake left which is great on radical chic PR but in reality does more or less the same as the right when it comes to looking after corporate interests ..
Why not have a social forum with Blair in the chair at least the punters would know who wos running things.
Isnt it time to take into account that left and right are just two different methods for fucking over the people .
political parties are nothing more than giant money laundering operations, selling off our assetts to their corporate mates in the way of political favour and in the case of rail track and others we even have to pay huge bonuses to half cocked wankers even when they make mega fuck ups and leave us with a third world railway system ..
permanent stand pipes in parts of the country where it rains for nine months of the year ..
wasn't the tory boy going to renatioanlise the railways at some stage of the game ..

Did I say anything about political parties?

My God, you people really don't have any hope. Maybe we should just roll over and die as the seas are poisoned, the the sky filled with noxious gases and the people of the world massacred by high-tech war machines.

Why can't we have a gathering of some progressive thinking people to try to chart a path out of this mess.

I am not a Socialist Worker or a Tory or a Communist or part of any other organisation. I am just a concerned citizan of this planet who is sick of the exploitation and death of our beautiful Earth.

I don't want to be a leader, or a follower. I want to be a free human being. We don't need leaders or political parties or anything similar to get us out of this mess. We just need an informed populace, living sustainable lifestyles and cutting the supply lines of the death-dealing corporations.

More than anything though, we need each other.

I will keep fighting but it seems you have decided to turn on CNN and sit, placidly watching the carnage. Like a rabbit in headlights.

Sort it out people.

I have a web server and I am willing to volunteer my services to help set something up. I can't do it alone though.

Anyone?

You have to realise indymedia is flooded by right wing spam all the time.in the UK the Young BNP headed by Nazi Mark Collet regulary visit the site and write negative crap, these guy's get kicks out of it.

In America various religious fundamentalist groups (evangelical christian) after knowing of a local activist who writes for indy was against the war they started up a campaign to once again fill indymedia with lots of racist fascits opnions.

You'll easily spot this on the American one's and on the indymedia homepage which is even known to be looked at by bored FEDS who monitor yahoo chat rooms for peedo's.

I'm willing to help you, what we need is a demo site set up to discuss this.

try mysitespace.com for some free webspace and and www.cjb.net for an address for now.

bascially this is on the whole an idiot nation, with a braindead celebrity worshipping society, people really haven;t got a clue about politics especially the one's who posted earlier.

I'm not British i'm Italian and i've come to hate this place, no offence for the sheer amount of closet fascist there are.

In Italy there are millions of them, our president is one of them but at least they admit what they are and what they stand for.

The Conservative party in Italy would be classes as a fascist party, whearas here people in the masses and working class actually vote for it.

God man, you have so many right wing newspapers that are actually aimed at the working class which to me does not make any sense since Murdoch is against anything left.

Its a shame that this place has so few activists or people who actually care about changing the world. There are no radicals, no progressive movements or any capable politicians here.

in italy you're either a communist/socialist or a fascist/nazi, there is no in betweens and i've come to realise that here is just the same except your fascist wear nice suits and are on the TV all the time, they're called the Tory's and are a fascist party with fascist stuck up upper and middle class ideas and practices.

You really need a Social Forum independant of any political party or organisation, a party for the individual.

i'm willing to help u and others to do this, all you no hopers why don't you just go back to mcdonalds, its where boring, hopeless idiots like you belong.

you complain about blair, about bush but what do you actually do about it you anti-war Brits, you hold up a placard with NOT IN MY NAME, and..??and then what.

for f***s sake start taking some action and build a progressive movement here before they start a campaign to get the UK to be a State of America.

I've recently found out that Murdoch has this background vision for this and wants the UK to join NAFTA.

go out and do something english boy

you complain, you moan and groan but you don't take any action, you critcise every party, every trot but what are you doing, whats your campaign like.

its freedom or fascism in this new american empire.

Yes for UK Social Forum

I think it is a good idea to have a UK Social Forum.

Also, as taurus points out, one that is "independent of any political party or organisation, a party for the individual."

Like taurus, I am also not British. I lived in the UK for 5 years and although I really liked the UK and British people I agree with his observations about too few radicals, no progressive movements or any capable politicians.

This is with no disrespect for all the people who organize and go to demonstrations in the UK. Demos are most certainly a critical aspect of activism that serve to make an issue known to the public. However, the UK needs a movement that follows on after the demos.

For example, in terms of the war in Iraq, there were lots of impressive demonstrations before and during the bombing. Once the bombing stopped it seemed that the reaction against the war fizzled down to few individuals at exactly the most dangerous phase of the war, i.e. when Iraqs resources, rebuilding contracts etc were being handed out.

I'm willing to participate in a UK Social Forum. The idea about a demo site to discuss this is maybe the first step.
