the group was kept surrounded for ages even after reaching the square and despite the fact that many more protestors were dancing in the road just next to them

All those pig wagons

It's like the No M11 link road protests all over again. We used to regularly get streets filled end to end with pig wagons like that for every major eviction. Only consolation you can get from such insane overkill is that it's costing them van loads of money.

them or us

But the beauty is they charge it back to us. The more money they get from us, the more powerful they get. And no politician or people's representative can say that the police are being wasteful, because the police are the experts at crowd management, and there is no independent person in a position to challenge their "judgement" no matter how silly things get.

It's like being represented by a bad lawyer who just keeps coming back for more money because they are the expert and they say its needed.
