police conversations

indys | 02.05.2003 14:26

showing to what extent the police and us just don't speak the same language

Both dialogues, inside a police cordon.

Police: 'nothing got damaged at alltoday as far as we
know'
Demonstrator: 'well then this is all a bit of an overreaction of them isn't it - considering we were just dancing. anyway we ruled the streets today and could have smashed things up if that had been the idea'

===================================

demonstrator: can i get though, please? (to get out of cordon)
police: no
demonstrator: why
police: because i say so
demonstrator: what?
police: because i say so
demonstrator: that's not a reason
police: that's your opinion
demonstrator: we have a right to know why we're held
here
police: you are held to prevent a breach of the
peace
demonstrator: we're not breaching the peace, we were
dancing and then you started beating us
police: that's your opinion, you stick with it
demonstrator: that's what i saw, not my opinion. the
breach of the peace is 'your' opinion, and hte only
reason it's you sticking to it is because you have
weapons
police: that's the law
