End the Occupation!
May 30 through June 8

A week of End the Occupation actions around the world, from May 30 through June 8, to mark the beginning of the occupation in 1967 and demand that it end.
End the Occupation!

The Israeli occupation began in June 1967 and has persisted for the past 36 years, with unremitting harm to Palestinians and Israelis alike. For the sake of both peoples, the time has come to end it. The Coalition of Women for Peace will be launching 10 days of events to end the occupation, beginning May 30th with a mass Women (and Men) in Black Vigil in Tel Aviv, Israel. We invite people of good will throughout the world to hold solidarity actions at any time during this period -- actions that call for an end to the Israeli occupation. Feel free to design your own event - a demonstration, march, vigil or whatever suits your group. Send us a photo of your action that we can post on our website (www.coalitionofwomen4peace.org). Hi. I want Israel's occupation to end, too. But, I don't think it's fair to say that Israel should end it when there is overwhelming evidence that suggests that a sizable chunk of Palestinian leadership, main organizations and popular support still see nothing wrong with killing every Jew they can get their hands on, still refuse to even agree that Israel exists and will continue to exist (Hamas, Islamic Jihad, etc. all call for Israel's destruction regardless of what Israel occupies or does not occupy), etc.

As long as Arafat, who for 35 years has led the palestinians to nothing but war and fighting and denial that israel should be left alone, and hamas, and hizbollah (lebanon), and islamic jihad, and the al brigades, and the military wing of fatah, etc. are all actively engaged in terrorist intifada attacks against israel, I don't understand why Israel should be expected to leave.

And, I used to think that the attacks were because of Israel's occupation. BUt palestinians proved that wasn't true in 2000 and 2001 by (1) rejecting to even negotiate with israel about israel's land for peace and an offer of a palestinian state, (2) every time israel withdrew from palestinian towns, attacks from palestinians taking place inside israel INCREASED, and every time israel then went back in and occupied more towns again, attacks taking place inside israel were lesser, etc.

So while I too am against a people being occupied, I don't know what israel's alternative is considering the leaders and main organizations that represent the people being occupied obviously want war and fighting.

Everyone knows arafat wants israel's death.
Everyone knows hamas wants israel's death.
Everyone knows islamic jihad wants israel's death.
Why in hell should israel be forced to give control of land directly next to israel to any of those groups/people, or anyone even remotely connected to them? It's a crazy thing to ask.

I think israel's occupation must end, but only when the people who gain control are normal, non-crazed responsible people unconnected to arafat or hamas or the former PLO, etc.
