Cities of Culture Celebrate Mayday

c vulture | 23.04.2003 17:22 | May Day 2003

WHY WAIT FOR 2008?
THE TIME IS NOW - CELEBRATE!

As the city councils and corporate self-interest groups continue to squander money on competing for the 'City of Culture 2008' prize, Mayday 2003 will see a celebration of alternative and diverse culture in Bristol (one of the six shortlisted cities).

Perhaps people in Birmingham, Newcastle/Gateshead, Cardiff, Liverpool or Oxford (the other shortlisted cities) would also like to mark Mayday 2003 with a cultural celebration? Like Bristol, the councils in these areas no doubt love a good knees up in the name of 'culture' and would love to see people taking to the streets to demonstrate their own artistic and cultural practices...

(We are hoping that the renowned improvisational comedy and physical theatre troope, the Avon & Somerset Constabulary Players, will be toning down their recent confrontational approach to the audience for this occasion, although no doubt they'll be using their performing animals (dogs, horses etc) again.)

Any reports of sister actions in the other five cities would be welcome on Bristol Indymedia:

To highlight the racist nature of British soceity and its actions of war.

Bristol was founded on racist slave industry.
Bristol's suburbs are home to many racists arms industry workers.

Highlght it big time.

I suggest images of pigs with blood all over it and chanting insults so they mght just get it.
