why do you use the record of the german greens to dismiss the british greens? These elections are for local councils - they don't have any say in foreign policy. They do have a say in local development, public vs private funding, sustainability schemes...

the system is far from perfect but a vote for the 'least-worst' candidate can go a lot further in local elections than national - the councillors have much more autonomy than MPs and you have much more chance of influencing them. Plus, turnout is so low that if a few concerned people used their vote instead of maintaining their political purity, they might find that they get a half-decent councillor who will vote against building that new out of town business park on top of ancient woodland - instead of the usual suspect.

Abstain, and the only thing you gain is being able to throw the fringe argument of "you were only elected by 10% of the electorate" at the council when they do something you don't like.....
