ANTI WAR DEMO GLASGOW - UK
HOLGER MOHAUPT | 12.04.2003 14:39
2000 people marched through the city centre of Glasgow in protest of the war in Iraq and for justice. Police presence was small and the atmosphere was sombre and quite restrained. Speeches were made by the various political parties including the Scottish Socialist Tony Sheridan. The most impressive one came from 16-year-old Briney McCloud from a group called Edinburgh Youth.
The next protest in Scotland will be the Blockade of the Nuclear Submarine Base in Faslane on 22. April 2003. Faslane is where Britain keeps its "Weapons of Mass Destruction".

Recouperating Anti-War

The psychogeography of the setup at Glasgow Green was fascinating, a stage at the front and hemmed in by stalls peddling ideologies at either side. It looked to me like nothing more than an attempt to channel anti-war feeling into SSP/Green votes. I was disgusted and left before the bands came on.
