RAFAH, Gaza Strip (Reuters) - Israeli troops shot and critically wounded a British peace activist helping Palestinian children cross a street under gunfire on Friday, fellow activists and hospital officials said.
Tom Hurndall was one of 12 members of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) who on Thursday went to the Rafah refugee camp on the Egyptian border to protest at continued Israeli shooting in the area, said ISM member Nick Smith.
According to Smith, the 21-year-old Hurndall was shot in the head as he tried to help a group of children cross a street in an area under Israeli gunfire.
Ali Musa, director of the Rafah hospital, said Hurndall's brain had been damaged and that he was "clinically dead".
The army was checking the report.
ISM is a group which positions its activists as "human shields" around the West Bank and Gaza. Last week it said Israeli soldiers had shot and severely wounded one of its activists in Jenin.
Last month, an American ISM member, Rachel Corrie, was crushed to death by an Israeli armoured bulldozer in Gaza.
The army called that incident a "regrettable accident", saying the driver could not see Corrie as she tried to block the bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinian home in a flashpoint border area. ISM said Corrie was run over deliberately.
An ISM member who gave her name only as Alison said Hurndall had gone to Iraq to act as a human shield against U.S-led coalition troops and then to Jordan to help Iraqi refugees before joining the movement in Gaza.

If British forces hadn't invaded Iraq, they wouldn't have had to deal with the tricky phenomenon known as "American friendly fire".
If non-embedded journalists hadn't been trying to do their job in Baghdad, they wouldn't have been killed by fire from a US tank...

A lot of Jews are in fact against the I"D"Fnazi occupation and massacres in the occupied territories.
And Palestinians are semites.
The nazis in Isreal are very anti-semitic too, then.
The old and dodgy trick of playing the "anti-semitic" card no longer works.

Another posted said that the two deaths will not be in vain. You got that right! I will fight apartheid and Zionism until the day I die.

As for running anybody over with a tractor, don't let your mouth cut cheques your arse can't cash. I'ts easy to posture from behind the keyboard, but a bit more difficult on the ground in the occupied Gaza strip. Put on your Zahal uniform and come on over, 'ya Arnab'. We'll be waiting.
As for Iraq. Wait and see. Saddam is gone - good riddance - but the Iraqi people remain and the US-British occupation will continue. Even now, UK and US soldiers are shooting the civilians they came to 'liberate' and encouraged to loot. And resistance will spread. My hunch is that US and UK soldiers will continue to come home in body bags - in ones and twos- for years to come.
Condolences to the friends and family of ISM volunteer Thomas Hurndall. His courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten by the Palestinian people.

... but the problem here is that the comments HAVE been posted and the thread later on continues the theme and produces debate - and now this thread is meaningless as a dialogue and/or as a [historical] document. This can only be discribed as censorship I'm afraid.
Now I don't mind being insulted, or even threatened with being run over by Julies imaginary bulldozer - I'm a stoic sort and can defend my argument without undue hysteria - but what I do mind is the 'rewriting' of the record here.
Let Julie stand by her words and let the grown ups here judge her as they judge me - according to their own belief and opinion - after all, its not as if we can be shielded from the effects of similar mindsets, as the people of Iraq are finding out. We need to face the truth full on and confront whatever distortions and prejudice that would assume preminance. This is no longer possible in this thread.
I would be glad of any infomation regarding the nature of the discussion that lead to this act of 'sanitising' this thread - mostly because I imagine it was done with the best intentions (see the 'road to hell'!).
For those wishing to catch up on this issue, you might try searching for either 'julie' or 'jackslucid' and see if the original posts are still in the database (and if they are it kind of makes a mockery of the act of removing them - if they aren't it compounds the error!)
Peace to all at IMC UK.
