Suggested slogans for tomorrow's demo

George Azariah-Moreno | 11.04.2003 13:12

Brainstorming... Here's just a list of slogans, which may suit the occasion and current situation to different degrees. There is a sense in which just 'stop the war' is no longer as felicitous, so I came up with these:

Good war, Mr. Blair?

Tragic, unnecessary war!

Woken up yet, Mr Blair?

I don't buy your 'victory'

Good "show"; remind us WHY?

What a bloody mess!

Bush, the world is not your plaything!

neocons = WMD

self rule for Iraq - no proxy rulers!

Iraquis don't have to pay you back Saddam's $100bn debt!!!

Fucking neo-colonialists!

Who's next?

Hands off Iraq!

No to US occupation of Iraq

US strategy for exploitation: divide and rule...

Civil War. What then? Liberation?

US: Ethnic conflict maker

Boycot America

No 'return on investment' for America

No 'cost-recovery' of war on Iraqis

America must pay all the way

Sanctions on America

Nuremberg 1946: pre-emptive war = war of agression

GOT IT WRONG

11.04.2003 15:31

What about an acknowledgement that the anti-war movement got it wrong. We were given dire warnings of thousands of civilian casualties, of a new Vietnam and that this was somehow a war for oil.
In fact, large sections of the movement spent more time demonising blair and bush than concentrating on the real villain of the piece, Saddam.
And yes, we all know who put him in power.
But that is history, superpowers tend to back unpleasant regimes. Its the nature of global politics. Russia and China do it to.
Lets look to the future, admit the war was largely a success and try to build better societies in places like Iraq.

got it wrong.....?????????

11.04.2003 15:46

Iraq is descending into anarchy in the worst possible sense - today's Guardian wrote of a man who was being stoned and beaten to death because he had broken into somebody's shop, looting is widespread, hospitals are struggling to cope with thousands of casualties from US bombings while some hospitals have not had water for days, aid agencies cannot deliver humanitarian aid because the situation is too dangerous...resistance is continuing and the US is bringing a 21 000 lb "superbomb" (Massive ordnance air blast) to the Gulf...meanwhile the Pentagon and the US state department are arguing about who should lead Iraq, the leading candidate is a US puppet who has not lived in Iraq for decades and has no support from those who actually live there, and it has been hinted that Iraq won't have free elections for 2 years... and the US is headhunting for international oil company executives to lead the new Iraqi "national" oil company.
Yes, well done US & UK - what a nice little war. Let's all stay home tomorrow, read the Sun and pretend that everything is ok.

Topple Blair statue

11.04.2003 17:06

WILL MAPPLEBECK says we got it all wrong, and agrees that the US "put Saddam in power", but "that is history, superpowers tend to back unpleasant regimes". Oh, that's history, well OK then. And when they pull the rug from under their clients, and kill and maim thousands in the process, that's history too, I suppose, great powers probably tend to that as well. You might accept that as perfectly normal, and therefore correct, but we don't.

For the demo, suggest a giant paper mache of Blair, with arm outstretched, and everyone gets to topple him.
