Baghdad has Fallen, The War Goes On...

Anarchist606 | 09.04.2003 15:19

Are those anti-war people in the UK ready for the end of this war? Because our is not yet over. Not by a long way.

Well they are saying the war is all but over. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. I hope it is and the bombing can end. But once the war ends those of us who opposed it will be subject to the 'yah-boo you were wrong' type attacks from the pro-war lobby. Get ready for the 'you were wrong about Afghanistan and you were wrong about Iraq' media assaults.

Are those anti-war people in the UK ready for the end of their war? Because our is not yet over. Not by a long way.

Some suggested that Iraq might become a Vietnam. It might yet still. After initial large scale combat, were the North Vietnamese Army was soundly beaten in conventional war by the massive US firepower, most of the Vietnam war descended into drip-drip guerrilla warfare. The US could boast they controlled the cities, but the jungles were closed. In an attempt to open them up chemical weapons such as the defoliant 'Agent Orange' were employed. While in the cities the constant guerrilla attacks were met with increased ferocity by US forces towards the civilians. Which in turn recruited more guerrillas. Drip. Drip.

But there were other questions we had that have not been answered; what about depleted uranium? What about the future of Iraq? What about the anger in the Muslim world? The damage to international institutions? On some things we were wrong about; there were less civilian casualties than in Afghanistan (so far) and the oil fields were not set ablaze. But was it our fears for these that led the US/UK forces to ensure we were wrong on this issue?

Were we wrong about Afghanistan? Not yet. It has not stopped terrorism, the victims of the Bali bombing can attest to that. It has not stopped the heroin trade as Blair said it would, in reality it lead to a opium production explosion. Has it stopped the Taliban? No, they are still going and the new government has re-opened the Ministry of Vice and Virtue. US forces are virtually contained to barracks unless fully-tooled up and attacks on them continue even to this day.

Drip.

And in the US Military base at Bagram airport two 'suspect terrorist' die under interrogation. Beaten to death y the forces of democracy.

Drip.

And in Colombia, another US oil war - this time invisible to the west - plays out it's deadly path.

Drip.

And still alive today are the victims of ‘Agent Orange’. There will be no CNN/NBC/Fox news special on their plight.

Drip.

And the big questions. Of Imperial Power. Of money. Of oil. The pro-war media hasn't even figured out that these are the real questions behind all this yet. The hawks who planned this war know that these are the real questions, which is why they went to war. They also know, that we know, which is why they will try to silence us.

Drip.

One mention of Iran or Syria or wherever it is those idiots plan to hit next and we protestors will be vindicated. We've got them over a barrel really. Unless of course there are no more invasions. In which case we have peace. Of a kind ;-)

Vindication

09.04.2003 15:54

If you get any smart-arse comments from war-loving morons, you can shut their ugly mouths with just one question: "And where are the weapons of mass destruction?"

Remember, this war was fought in order to save the world from Saddam's horrid stash of chemical/biological weapons and dirty bombs. Given the potency of this arsenal, isn't it a little surprising that he hasn't delved into it - even in his hour of greatest need? This man is an evil stop-at-nothing dictator after all.

The pro-war lobby have nothing to be proud of. The whole flimsy justification for their war has been shown to be utterly unfounded. There most probably are no WMDs in Iraq (which Hanx Blix and Scott Ritter knew anyway) and this monstrous lie has left the streets, squares and alleyways of Iraq filled with thousands of corpses.

Hang your heads in shame, Mr Bush and Mr Bliar.

I wondered how long it would be1

I wondered how long it would be before the left wing loonies started to compare this skirmish to past ones. They seem to dress and act like they live in the past. Now its acheived its aim and is becoming popular where to now? They don't care they'll find something else to put their under employed asses to!

Always Sceptical

Unemployed?

Why are peace protesters, road protesters etc always assumed to be on the dole? I noticed people of a low IQ shouting 'get a job' from car windows when I was at an anti-road protest. I am at work now, so don't have much time to get to demos etc, but good luck to the people who do, working or not.

This war has shown the real face of the US_UK

09.04.2003 17:59

This war is showing the true face of US/UK imperial arrogance and brutality. They deliberately and cynically bombed two Arab TV crews yesterday in Baghdad and even their own media. Why? Because they do not want cameras from the Arab media filming while US troops go on the "turkey shoot" which is now in process in Baghdad. They don't want any risk of footage being filmed of Iraqi civilians being slaughtered by the trigger-happy, moronic "regular army clowns" of the US army.

What has enabled the US to nake such rapid gains? Is it because the US soldiers are better soldiers than the Iraqis? Absolutely not. The simple truth is that whenever the poorly armed Iraqis have defended their commnuities or counter-attacked, the US troops have retreated in a cowardly fashion and called in air strikes to do their fighting for them. Some "tough guys" these. The lack of air power made the Iraqi defeat inevitable, but the award for bravery goes to the Iraqi defenders.

The CIA is probably bribing thousands of people in Bagdad at this very moment to get into the streets to welcome them.

Nobody will shed a tear for Saddam and his regime, but US/UK colonialism offers nothing to the people of Iraq. Only the Iraqi people themselves can solve their problems. The only thing the West can do is to get out and pay reparations for decades of colonial and semi-colonial oppression oppression.

Britain and US OUT of Iraq!
