Anti-war and anti-capitalist actions in Ghana

Wednesday, April 2

About 10,000 people took over the streets of Accra today (Wednesday April 2) in a 5-hour anti-war demonstration that brought government and business districts and most of the city centre to a standstill. Hundreds-strong
breakaway groups repeatedly breached mounted and armed police lines that had cordoned off the American and British embassies.

A barrage of government-sponsored propaganda and scare tactics in the days leading to the demo contributed to hardening and heightening the organisation and politics of the biggest internationalist action in Ghana in recent years. Another demonstration will take place in Kumasi, Ghana¹s second city April 4 (Friday), with many more actions planned across the country. Anti-war activism in Ghana is also feeding into the first nationally coordinated anti-capitalist manifestations. A demonstration
*Against War and Capitalist Globalisation¹ has been called for May 1, Labour day.
