US Raid Hits Maternity Hospital, Killing Two

Baghdad, IRAQ, April 03, 2003 - U.S. warplanes reportedly hit a maternity hospital, a marketplace and residential areas in strikes on Baghdad last night. According to eyewitnesses and hospital workers, at least two civilians died and 25 were injured during the bombardment.

A Reuters correspondent in the region said cars were halted in the middle of the road and that at least five occupants were burned to death inside their vehicles. According to initial reports, three doctors and nurses were injured at the Red Crescent Maternity Hospital in Baghdad. Patients are also believed to have been among the casualties. It was also reported that at least 11 civilians, most of them children, had died during an attack on El Hille the previous night. While El Hille hospital workers say 33 civilians died, the Reuters correspondent said he saw 11 civilian bodies including children.
