oxford street shutdown idea

Oxford Street Shutdown/Snakemarch after the last stop The war march inspired many... Shall we call a mass action for every Saturday starting April 5th?

This is an idea for actions based on the inspiring events after the last Stop the War march and/on previous mayday ideas... could it work?

Stop The War In Iraq Festival of Resistance
1pm on and around Oxford Street Area Every Saturday Beginning April 5th, 2003

Global Democracy Ha Ha Ha!
2 Million in London Against the War and still Blair doesn’t listen!

Millions upon millions on the streets in the UK, USA, Syria , Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, Canada etc, etc, etc,. Hundreds of thousands and 2000 people taking direct action against the war in San Francisco and hundreds of thousands more marching in New York with the previous march declared illegal.

Yet isn’t it obvious our governments still don’t care!
It is obvious that they are lying to us!
The UK and USA media are not telling us the truth!

These huge Peace Marches have been great for connecting diverse groups and in showing the mass opposition around the world but they alone cannot and will not stop it by themselves. Our governments don’t really care about real people’s democracy or what the majority of the world really want. Like the worst patriarch they say they are carrying out this war to protect us from weapons of mass destruction. Yet in reality they want exclusive possession and right to use them for themselves in order to control and dominate the whole world. Who appointed these capitalists as the globe’s Gods? Who will be surprised in London, or New York when biological weapons are unleashed on us as revenge for this horrible war? At least many children and teenagers seem to understand what many adults don’t- the complete idiocy of what’s going on. Our leaders are playing dangerous games with all our lives. War and the privatisation of everything that exists in the world awaits us all.

After the last Stop the War march thousands of people shut down Oxford Street with mass sit downs and with a wonderfully exciting ‘snake march’ (a running march through the streets) of West London. On Oxford Street these actions occurred collectively without orders and without leaders while others present who didn’t or couldn’t risk being arrested blew whistles, banged pots, and shouted anti-war opposition from the sidewalks. The atmosphere was electric! Muslims, Young Bengali kids, Turkish Youth, Anarchists, Socialists, and many other anti-war folk of all stripes marched together in an incredible show of people’s power and solidarity. To win this we need all of these tactics working together right now.

From just legally standing and noisemaking on the sidewalks to civil disobedience on Oxford street and the streets nearby. From militant street marches throughout the area to…? We can come together throughout the day (and melt away when necessary) to express our resistance to all this violence and lies. While so may die from American and UK violence let’s make downtown London feel the power of militant solidarity.

So a proposal to everyone: let’s continue this disruption of business as usual every Saturday beginning April 5th. If you agree please let everyone whose marched already know.

Copy or translate this and distribute it widely right now if you can. Come with a group of friends or alone to the area around Oxford Street Saturdays beginning April 5th from 2 pm onwards. Whistles, pots, and noisemakers of all sorts can help to identify the crowds of us when individual actions have been broken up by the police as happened after the last Peace March and when we have voluntarily or involuntarily blended back into the crowds in the area only to reassemble continuously throughout the day…

THEY ARE PLANNING MORE WARS- LET’S SHOW OUR STRENGTH & STOP THEM
