Day of Direct Action & Civil Disobedience in Manchester

April 1st - Blair's A (bloody) Fool Day Day of Civil Disobedience in Manchester against the war on Iraq. Meet 6pm All Saints Park or organise acts of civil disobedience throughout the day : see website  http://www.blairsafool.org.uk

This war is galvanising real opposition across the world and in Britain and the US with anti-war movements developing imaginative protests to expose the hypocrisy of the warmongers. Massive marches showing the level of popular opposition to the war are vital, but no protest movement ever beat a government with marches alone.
We need to step up our level of action. In the past, many people have felt that taking direct action or engaging in civil disobedience, often illegal, is taking things too far. But Blair and Bush are acting illegally on a global scale, and as the secretary of the rail workers union said, when suggesting workers take strike action “If Blair is going to act illegally, then we will also”. More and more people are feeling that they have a responsibility to actively resist the war. US bases have become a focus of regular direct action, blockades have happened across the country and in Manchester. Last week tens of thousands of people blocked city centres in a massive show of popular opposition to the war. While the bombs are dropping there will be no business-as-usual for those responsible.
To get involved with strikes, occupations, blockades across Manchester on April 1st, contact your local anti-war group, or call CND 0161 273 8283 for details. Or alternatively, get together with friends, or workmates and plan your own action. See www.schnews.org.uk/diyguide for info on direct action.
