A few hundred very vocal protestors last night marched through the centre of London to demonstrate outside the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square.
Despite a huge police presence including a helicopter, the march was on the whole peaceful. There was one arrest, apparently after a protestor attempted to walk on the pavement.

Loads of police

There were almost as many police as demonstrators. When leaving I counted 18 riot vans and 8 motorbikes and there could easily have been more I missed.

All this for a bunch of students. Most of us find it hard enough to get out of bed, the idea that we might be a threat to the fortress which is the US Embassy is just ridiculous. But we've clearly got them rattled.

Disillusioned kid

walking on the pavement

I was indeed arrested for being on the pavement...muscled by 5 or 6 police and put in stiff cuffs which cut deep into my arms.

originally the charge was for obstructing the highway but since that was clearly ridiculusly officers d212 and d12 changed the charge to a breach of the peace and i was held for 3 hours at holborn and given a cup of dirty brown water.

Clearly this is a mmisuse of the law.

Keep marching!
