Cardiff Centre Blocked in Anti-War Protest

llantwit | 27.03.2003 21:54

They said stop the city - we did. Again.

Once again Cardiff has been brought to a standstill by protestors against this shitty war.
A 5pm vigil attended by 300+ ppl turned into a blockade of the four lane city centre road Castle Street which lasted until 6.30pm.
After that we went peripatetic for 1/2 and our and moved onto two other roadblocks. Not enough cops to do anything about the sit-downs. 5/6 arrests were made after some ppl tried to block a cop wagon trying to force its way through the blockade. Some nasty beatings were doled out by some frustrated po-lice. Support group now waiting for arrestees.

Highlights:
US flag burned, everyone sat down in the road(!), top samba band kept the vibe excellent, Iraqi guy wandering around shaking ppl's hand and thanking them, dancin' in the streets, nobody would listen to cops or trots with megaphones.

Lowlights:
Police brutality for the second time in Cardiff this week.

Well yet again the bully boys were made to look like the stupid over weight fascists that they are. Clearly not content with just sitting there peacefully and taking in the good example that we were showing they had to revert to good old state violence. 6 arrests came out of nowhere as the piggys drove a riot van in to the road block in order to trigger confrontation. one woman was seriously assaulted and held on the floor and many others were beaten with batons and punches while trying to intervene.
Ahhhhh wat i would do for a bullet proof vest a big stick and 5 minutes alone with 1 or 2 of thoughs cowardly thought police... hmmmmmmmm :-)

BECOME A NUISENCE AND END THIS BULLSHIT

Go Cardiff Go!

Its great to get these reports from the Cardiff crew: in a city many times smaller than London you got more people together for your roadblock than the London block on March 21st (see WOMBLES report here >>>).

Sympathy for those bashed and/or nicked: our thoughts are with you.

our day will come...
