When asked about allowing the UN to take control from US forces in Iraq after the war, Colin Powell said:

"We didn't take on this huge burden with our coalition partners not to be able to have significant, dominating control over how it unfolds in the future,"

Well that just about says it all doesn't it? If America really wants Iraqis to control their own destiny then why does the US need "significant, dominating control"?
