Peace Vigil at Machynlleth, Wales (20th March)

On Thursday last week, at the start of the war, up to eighty people gathered to demonstrate at the clock tower in Machynlleth town centre, to hold a peace vigil against the war. All was very fluffy and successful, and lots of passing cars/lorries tooting support.
People from the local Stop the War coalition, from nearby CAT (including visiting students) and others came to voice their opposition. There were banners (in Welsh and English), drums, whistles - and reggae pumping out of nearby resident's window.
At 6pm, 3 climbers scaled the clock tower to hang a huge banner - Na: No - from the clock. Half the local police force turned out (1) to tell them that they were trespassing on public property, and to remove the banner. When confronted with the response (Not until we're ready) he didn't argue and the banner stayed.
