This weekend Tyneside campaigners against the war took their protests to Glasgow, London, Sedgefield, Newcastle and Durham as well as joining the actions at Menwith Hill.

Sedgefield
Up to 100 people were at Sedgefield for a protest outside the Labourt Party annual meeting of Tony Blair's constituency party. Lots of media coverage and some excellent banners etc on display. Also a long "march" of a few hundred cars!

Newcastle
Once again there was a fantastic turnout - across age groups - for the activities in Newcastle. A rally at Grey's Monument again drew a packed and responsive crowd - maybe a thousand people at its peak. The police then refused to allow us to march to the war memorial at Haymarket. After a few minutes attempted negotiation with the police, somebody announced to the crowd that we could not have a march up Northumberland St, and if we wouldn't want the people negotiating with the police. So the rally was dispersed to reassemble in 15 minutes time at Haymarket.
Then chaos ensued as the police at the most obvious route blocked with vans - but that didn't stop people rushing through Boots, the Body Shop, Monument Mall, the Metro station and a few side streets! Coppers meekly watched, because they hadn't been given any instructions about that! A crowd of 200+ attended a 2 minutes silence and further protest at the War memorial.
