Write on the money!

Jay-B | 23.03.2003 20:38

Does Tony Blair care about the Iraqi people? Nope. Does Tony Blair care about democracy or popular opinion in the UK? Nope. So what DOES Tony Blair care about?

As the Wu-Tang Clan sang, "Cash Rules Everything Around Me".
MONEY is what flicks Tony's switch. So why not use their filthy lucre as a propaganda tool?

Next time you get hold of a bit of the folding stuff, take 30 seconds to scribble "Tony Blair is a war criminal" (or whatever you fancy) on the note.

The Queen's currency thus defaced will be taken out of circulation by the Bank of England. If enough people do it, this simple, quick and painless piece of direct action could start causing some serious inconvenience to the bastards ruling this country.

think it through

i doubt they will be taken out of criculation - come on, have you looked closely at the notes! i've had ones held together by selotape.... and if they do, that means tax money will be spent replacing the notes earlier than necessary. i doubt it'll be much of a bother to them, it just speads up the process. and in terms of what you'd actually accomplish - the withdrawal of a couple of notes from circulation - what kind of impact can that possibly have?? there are better ways to use your time, i think.

it's a good protest

OK Angela, it ain't going to stop the war directly, but it's a viral propoganda protest that let's others feel supported in their own anti-war feeling (much needed in times of the pornographic propoganda that passes for news).

Also, the money supply is very closely controlled and monitored and bank notes ARE replaced when defaced in this way.

Many people are taking this further by treating the notes as free advertising for websites like indymedia too.

All exposure and all pressure is good. Writing on banknotes is a small and easy mark of dissent.

What are you doing that is so much more powerful? - please share it with us!

Peace

thats a bit negative angela

Writing on money takes seconds, raises awareness - whats the problem?

The thing about banknotes is the bleedin' obvious - everyone uses them - so we have access to the whole population if we do it big time - alt media can be ignored - or not even discovered, but stick a message on a tenner & loads of different people will get to read it.
Be creative - don't just write 'no war', use web addresses, statistics etc:

UNICEF estimate 500,000 Iraqis will die as a result of the war

www.j-n-v.org

etc etc

Oh, and stick it in a speech bubble coming out of the Windsor womans mouth - its about time she did something useful...

And if they WEREN'T taken out of circulation?

There'd be thousands of pounds worth of currency in circulation bearing anti-war messages.

Wouldn't THAT be a shame?

questions make people look twice

just found this article, even though its quite old now.
I really like this idea, and have a suggestion to refine it slightly by putting the comments in the form of questions eg:
"does your vote make any difference?"
"seen any chemtrails lately?"
"is Tony Blair a war criminal?"
etc.
which might catch someone's eye slightly more and even make someone say "oi, yes he is!" or whatever.
It would be nice to make someone actually stop and think for a couple of seconds.
