NUMBER 10 WEBSITE KNOCKED OUT BY ANTI-WAR ATTACK

Number 10 WEBSITE DOWN!!
Number 10 WEBSITE DOWN!!

At 6pm tonight (sat) the website for number 10 was inaccessable due to a denial of service attack launched by anti-war protesters. An attack page was distributed shortly after the start of war and number 10 has been hit constantly since.

Lets keep it up !

PM Website too

This one is down too -

 http://www.pm.gov.uk/

And to also demonstrate how crap the coders are, I accessed both pages using Mozilla and still had the "Microsoft" informational link at the bottom of the page.

Using IIS

The other thing one notices with these error messages is that the Government is using Microsoft's Internet Information Services webserver - no wonder the sites went down! I wonder if a more robust and open source solution, like Apache running on Linux, would have suffered the same problem.

How many Iraqi lives did that save?

Seems theres more interest in the geek coding fetishes than any 'anti war' purpose.

Nice one

Nice one!!!

I thionk this is most impressive!! It is just a way of sabotaging the government, people are helping each in their own ways, using whatever special skills they have. Making it difficult for the government, eg. by shutting down their web sites, is a fine way of expressing opposition to the war

Probably none - but what's your point?

Respectable tech publishers VNU report "around a thousand" sites affected, so far.

Of course, it is hard to see how this will save lives. But surely it's just another valid expression of disgust for this criminal war?

It takes all sorts, though we could probably do without those who simply resort to snide remarks and contribute nothing else.

I don't understand why people are being criticised for shuting down government websites.
IT'S A GOVERNMENT WEBSITE!!
YOU KNOW, THE ONES WHO TOOK THE UK INTO WAR????
VALID TARGET PERHAPS???

As for caling people geeks , well if it wasn't for the "geeks" you wouldn't have Indymedia.

The fact is,government sites were shut down pretty easily,
over 1000 sites have been attacked/graffitied with anti-war slogans. It may only be short term, but it disrupts their normal operations and costs them money to fix.

No DDoS is a good thing

In the same way that all spam is bad I think that all DDoS attacks are bad. I have also posted some comments about this here:

Fetwaa given by Shi 'ites religious leader

29.03.2003 10:50

Gave religious order for all Shi'ites to engage the invading enemy.
This means all (including women & children) will fight to the end until the invaders leave or all of the Shi'ites are masacred by the invaders.
