Menwith Hill update 18:00

Shock and awe, I reckon, at seeing the response to this war. Probably 2,000ish people here, most of them covered with tin foil. Many different things were happening at different points around the base. At the main gate, silver foil kites were being flown in abundance and a great deal of noise made. There was also a march around the perimeter fence. A number of attempts were made to get through the fence, and arrests were made - I don't know how many.
At a key point of the fence, the police presence was very heavy, and despite the best efforts of about 200 protestors to climb the hill and get round the fence, the riot cops kept us back and pushed us back down the slope. There were some batons out, but I'm not aware of anything more than pushing and dragging of demonstrators. Some folk were actually digging a hole under the fence - and underneath the police that were standing in front of it! Spectacular.
The whole thing was hugely positive. A lot of us have been feeling pretty low since the war started, but a many people have said that today will keep them going for some time. Don't stop fighting! Right, we're off to celebrate...
