Manchester blockades

Road blockades took place all over Manchester today

A major blockade took place on Princess parkway in Hulme this morning. Several people were violently detained by the poilice while others locked on to each other on the overlooking Stretford road bridge.

Other blockades took place in Longsight, Whalley Range and on Oxford Road (for more than an hour).

Stop the city, stop the war!

10:45 All Saints Park, Oxford Road - get there.

25ish arrests at the Hulme one this morning...more later...

Plus, from our wonderful right-wing local paper:

Another demonstration was planned for between 12 and 2pm on Salford Crescent to block the East Lancs Road.

Longsight blockade

About 70 of us managed to blockade Stockport Rd for an hour and a half before police turned up en masse and arrested four people as they were leaving the blockade. Amongst them was one lad trying to help a girl on crutches to stand up.

Low point came in the middle of the demonstration when the police arrested a ten year old boy for swearing after he joined the protest on his way to school. It looked as pathetic as it sounds - the full force of the law coming down on someone who barely reaches their chests.

Aside from that it was a positive, good-natured demonstration which caused serious disruption and got quite a lot of support from motorists apart from the usual barmcakes with Tourettes syndrome. More to come I hope..

BLEARS

The gathering at Salford was not a road block but a friendly greeting for salford MP and junior health minister Hazel Blears.Hazel was sitting down to a nice lunch at the Masonic Hall on salford crescent with a load of suits who carve up the health service, hopefully we gave Hazel a little indigestion which is a minor complaint in comparison to the health problems that will be inflicted on the Iraqi people as a result of depleted uranium (they're still suffering from the last time round). At one point we did break into the building to give Hazel a roasting but were quickly ejected by the filth(funny how the thin blue line now looks more like a streaky yellow one after they beat up the kids on Portland Street the other day).

Lets keep fuckin it up for em!
