Pro-democracy protestors take to the streets of Bristol.

Thursday 20 March 2003.

Following the lead of school students and University students, further pro-democracy activists took to the streets of Bristol today to oppose the war and demand democracy in Britain today.

At 12 noon school students blocked the centre of Bristol in an anti-war action. The students showed an appreciation of the issues of the war and were able to argue well with any opposition. Soon later they were joined by a procession of anti-war students from Bristol University.

They numbers at this point were about one to two thousend.

The students marched around the city twice to return to the city centre area at about 4pm. Numbers were swelled later in the evening by further anti-war pro-democracy activists.

At 6pm some two or three thousand pro-democracy anti-war protestors took to the streets to protest their opposition to the illegal, immoral and unjust war against Iraq. Demonstrators took to the streets and the lively demonstration continued until approx 8.30pm.

The M32 was blocked and there must have been considerable congestion. The demonstrators decided to continue their demonstrations tomorrow. They chanted "Bristol stops every night".

Bristol's opposition to the war appears very strong.
