Don't support the war? Don't fight the police, fight the govt!

Action | 20.03.2003 23:12

If you're against the war, fair enough, most people are. But why take it out on the police, they're just doing their jobs, and many are worried about things just like you and me.

If you're campaigning for peace it doesn't exactly look right when you see "peace campaigners" smashing stuff up and attacking the police on TV. That's not exactly going to do the cause any good really is it..

As they say, you peace for peace, not war for peace.

So when you're out tomorrow, think about that one and practice what you preach. If you smash up the streets and injur the police who are just doing their jobs, you're breaking that, you're resorting to violence to further your ends.

So lets keep it peaceful and respectful, the police are there to protect your right to peaceful protest, not to riot!

Only doing their job..............

Which appears at the moment to include attacking school kids at nonviolent sit-ins. Its even been shown on TV which says something about their blatant disregard for peaceful protest.Four burly cops to drag away nonviolent teenage girls - some job for tough guys huh?
The cops ARE part of the Govt. in case you hadn't noticed.

Democracy?

Since when are cops not part of the Government? None of this would be happening if Blair respected democracy. Brits are opposed to this war to the tune of %70 yet the unprovoked war goes on. You need to get your head srewed n stright if you cannot see that the youth are doing a great job!

The police are supposedly free of political control, but clearly labour wanted that to change and hence we've had all the interference.

As a crown servant, a police officer has the autonomy to deal with the law as he sees fit. His job is to uphold the law.Which in this case is to support peaceful protest, maintain order by dealing with those that violate the peacefull element and deal with offences.

Since when have the police ever been there to "protect your right to peaceful protest"???

I've never seen this - they are there to stop people taking real direct action, to nick anyone who steps over what they consider to be 'the line' - they are protecting the govt from the people.

Do you really think people are "taking it out on the police" - you must be even more blinkered than politicians - did you see the news for the last couple of days - even on the BBC I saw pigs pressure pointing & dragging away teenage girls - & and thats just the stuff that got on the news

The police have the option to not obey orders - if they had the guts to do it on mass the state would not be able to control them or the protests - I've heard loads of police say "I agree with you about the war - but I have to do my job" - which basically means they haven'yt got the balls to stand up & say no.
The defence of 'I was only obeying orders' doesn't wash - this was proven in court at Nuremburg in 1945 & still holds today.
