Peace protestors attacked by thugs on Westminster Bridge

Fifty anti-war activists were assaulted this evening on Westminster Bridge
by a gang of uniformed thugs. The activists were sitting in the road on
Westminster Bridge, when the thugs attacked without warning, applying
pressure points to make the activists move. When challenged on their violent
behaviour the thugs claimed they were acting on behalf of the Queen and said
they were hurting people but they were authorised to. Some of the activists
considered calling the police, but realised they had in fact just been
assaulted by the police.

Uncowed, the activists have now moved on and are sitting down at Admiralty
Arch where they have been joined by many more people.

Richard Byrne, who observed the attacks said, "What we saw was some thugs
using pain and violence to enforce their will, much as Blair and Bush are
doing in Baghdad. War after war will continue so long as we allow violence
to underpin our society. The uniformed brutes on Westminster Bridge are just
one of the many ways the state uses violence to promote the interests of the
few over the many."

The policing of anti war protests over the last few days has been marred by
violent policing, with schoolchildren attacked with truncheons yesterday,
and repeated use of pressure points.
