Global Music Festival Brings Message of Peace to 16 Countries

BOSTON, MA: March 19, 2003—As a looming international conflict threatens to deepen uncertainty and polarize cultures across the globe, one international charity is using music to deliver a message of peace and unity. One World Beat, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for global and local charitable projects, announces the One World Beat Festival, 2003. ( http://www.OneWorldBeat.org)

From March 21 – 23, musicians and bands performing at more than 40 venues, in 16 countries, will donate their performances to raise money for Boston-based United Planet, a nonprofit organization whose “Voices of Earth” project is the world’s largest online cultural exchange for peace through understanding. Participating artists include Juno Award-winner Bill Bourne, Latin Jazz legend Eddie Palmieri, and 400 musicians around the world.
U.S. shows will come to the Hard Rock Cafes in San Francisco, Phoenix, and Philadelphia, and to the B.B King Blues Club in Los Angeles. Other host nations include Canada, Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Germany, New Zealand, Bolivia, Guatemala, England, Tunisia, Gibraltar, Japan, France and Switzerland.

“We and One World Beat share a common goal,” said David Santulli, Executive Director of United Planet. “By working together, we have the opportunity to make more of a difference, share in the beauty of music, and take an important step toward peace.”
One World Beat Founder Andy Treichler said that the idea of giving musicians the chance to be part of a humanitarian project in a direct way was natural. “After all,” he said, “so much music is about changing the world, about making it better.”
