RACHEL CORRIE: IN MEMORIAN

THEY CANT KILL HER SPIRIT

There isnt a day gone by in which we have
to wake up to read or hear of yet another atrocity
carried out in the name of freedom.

I am not being selfish and do not mean to minimise on
the least the thousands of Palestinian lives murdered
until now. Yet today disaster sruck even closer to
home when I read how Rachel Corrie, an Evergreen
student from my adopted town of Olympia, was bulldozed to death. Words alone can and will not express the feeling of sorrow, the weight of pain.

And words alone will not express the feeling of rage.
This rage will have to be written, yes. But this rage
will have to be acted out, acted upon.

THEIR message is clear. They did not want a Rachel
Corrie standing there, listening and watching as they
carry out the most barbarous acts of genocide. Turns
out they can buy the media to look the other way, but
they can not buy Rachel Corries to watch their
murderous sprees and remain impassive, silent. So they
had to kill her. They had to blatantly bulldoze her.
Not only to bury her voice, her stance, her courage
and humanity--but to send a clear message to fellow
activists: "stay clear, the carnage must go on".

Well, that is not going to happen. Rachels spirit
remains there; standing, watching, fighting. She wasnt
forgiving for the atrocities being carried out to
Palestinians and she is not going to be any less
forgiving now.

Nor will forgive her extended family of activists
around the world.

Your memory will be held dearly, Rachel. We will not
forget.

Everybody who can onto a plane now. Her spirit waits
not under, but atop that demolished home which she defended with her life.

Lets help her rebuild it. Lets join her dream of a just and dignified peace for the people she gave everything.
