Correspondent - 'Israel's Secret Weapon' Mon BBC2 11.20pm

bbc | 17.03.2003 01:09

Unfortunately rescheduled - now on Mon BBC2 11.20pm, so Joe Public isn't going to see it (and the hypocrisy)

The United States and Britain are preparing to wage war on Iraq, for its undisclosed weapons of mass destruction.
Israel's nuclear, biological and chemical capabilities have remained un-inspected.

Meanwhile Mordechai Vanunu has been imprisoned for 16 years for exposing Israel's secret nuclear bomb factory to the world.

Vanunu is seen as a traitor in his own country.

He has been abandoned by most of his family and has spent 11 years in solitary confinement.

Today only an American couple, who have legally adopted him, are among the few visitors he is permitted.

This film is the story of the bomb, Vanunu and Israel's wall of silence.

FRIDAY EVENING STANDARD (LON) PREDICTED THAT THIS EDITION OF "CORRESPONDENT" MIGHT BE "PULLED"

this documentary was eagerly awaited by myself and my videorecorder; imagine my dismay, and my suspicion, when it vanished, only to be replaced with a pointless feature about wonders of victorian engineering and then a highly tactless one... on the us army jeep! i can see no legit reason why this was done, for the preceding newsflash had only set "correspondent" back by about 15 mins.
as orwell might have put it: all viewpoints are impartial, but some are more impartial than others...
perhaps the BBCs committment to the sanctity of impartiality depends on to whom we are being "impartial".

Bloody Fred Dibnah!

Having told loads of people to watch this, an important programme about ..... weapons of mass destruction, I did not know whether to laugh or cry when it was not shown.

Basically the BBCs news flash ran for 15 minutes past the scheduled start of "Correspondent". The BBC could easily have just run all programmes 15 minutes late (as they often do if a sports event delays schedulings) instead they cut "Correspondent" and showed Fred Bloody Dibnah as a filler!

The cheers from the Israeli embassey must have been deafening!

BBC Vanunu missing program

The BBC is rife with 'friends of Israel'. This program will be shown at a later, more obscure time.
