Chile Rejects Iraq Resolution Unless Modified
Thu March 13, 2003 09:18 PM ET
SANTIAGO, Chile (Reuters) - Chilean Foreign Minister Soledad Alvear said on Thursday her country could not support a U.S.-British-Spanish resolution paving the way for war with Iraq unless it was modified.
Chile is one of the six undecided members of the U.N. Security Council trying to forge a common position during negotiations at the United Nations on the resolution and accompanying British compromise proposals. The other five are Mexico, Pakistan, Angola, Guinea and Cameroon.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with President Ricardo Lagos and leaders of political parties, Alvear said, "If we had to vote on the proposal for a resolution that was presented last Friday, Chile would not be accompanying that stance. That means we are not going to support it."

14.03.2003 13:33

Jaqcues Chirac is far worse he says that he will use his veto to stop any new resolution on Iraq even though he knows that Iraq posses banned weapons of mass destruction and even if a large majority vote for the new resolution authorising military action!

HOW ABOUT A BOYCOTT FRENCH GOODS CAMPAIGN.

Methinks Harlequin has lost the plot............or perhaps just has no sense of humour.

Harly's hit his head

Poor old harlequin. A few kopeks short of a rouble. A few sandwiches short of a picnic. A few Al-Sarmoud missiles short of a material breach.

Basically he's a moron. Has to be.

I suspect he suffered some severe head injury at the beginning of February, which is why he suddenly transformed from a raving ultra-left anarchist to a pro-government "useful idiot" who believes everything Blair and The Sun tell him.

Its his poor old mam I feel sorry for. What a loser.

All we have done to them

The US helped impose dictator Pinochet into Chile on September 11th 1973, who then systematically went about killing opposition to his power. Supported by the UK and especially Thatcher, the Chileans suffered greatly. So they owe us do they?

They do "my friend Jack" at least

15.03.2003 11:42

They do owe Jack Straw for returning mass murderer Pinochet to a jubilant home-coming rather than to have the old fascist rot in a prison for the rest of his life.

Chile insisted on having Pinochet back and Jack was their "uncle".

Amazing how yesterday's leftie becomes today's fascists - Jack Straw, Peter Hains, etc.
