Depleted Uranium - Silent Genocide

Fight Apathy Tomorrow | 11.03.2003 20:46

As the US and its grinning Blairite puppets prepare to unleash an operation of "Shock and Awe" (translation: Blitzkrieg against civilians) against Iraq, the mainstream media have once again managed to airbrush all discussion of Depleted Uranium out of the public domain.

Let's not kid ourselves about that carefully chosen qualifier of "depleted". What we're talking about, are highly toxic and radioactive lumps of solid uranium - 30g in an A10 bullet, 4kg in a tank shell, and over 1,000 kg in the new generation of "bunker busters".

300 (Pentagon admission) to 900 (independent estimates) tonnes of DU were fired into southern Iraq in 1991, and God knows how much more will be used this time, when US forces will invade the whole country.
Radiation levels are still raised all over Iraq, and shockingly high in the south. The country is plagued by an epidemic of cancers and deformed births. Combined with sanctions and bombing, almost 2 million people have been murdered.
DU is a weapon of mass destruction, and we must raise the issue of the deployment of these genocidal munitions, which have a radioactive half-life of 4.5 billion years.

And it is against this backround, that the US claims it has been too soft for its own good, and recites the mantra that "nothing has been done" about the evil Iraqis for the past 12 years.
These photos of birth deformities show the results of America's benevolence over the past 12 years.
