What going to happened with this greek student?
Solidarity from greece to all the victims of the british "antiterrorist" law. The only terrorist is the states

A Greek man was remanded in custody when he appeared in court on charges under the Terrorism Act.
Charalumvos Dousemetzis, 25, a former student at Northumbria University, Newcastle, was arrested by officers at an address in the Heaton area of the city on February 25.

Dousemetzis, who has lived in Britain for the past eight years, is accused of possessing articles which may be used in connection with the instigation, preparation or commission of an act of terrorism.

He was charged on Monday with two offences under section 57 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He was remanded in custody until 11 March when he appeared before Bedlington magistrates on Tuesday.

Terrorism Act

I have no exact figures, but dozens of people have been charged under the Terrorism Act 2000 in recent months, a process no doubt connected to the current war/war scare. These arrests, charges and court appearances are set to continue and perhaps intensify, as the mask of parliamentary democracy continues to slip.

usa is the only terrorist

That block had written some articles on the internet, about the comrades of the revolutionary organization 17.N. He spoke the truth, which is killing american spies, british that took part in the terrorist war in yugoslavia and rich ppl exploiting the working class is justified.

His crime was that he published his view, as everyone shall do. Unfortinately uk like usa do not respect the freedom of speech and he ended-up in jails.

You can gather outside the courthouse and help, support him. The greek government express her support to the victim of the terrorist law. You shall protest outside the courthouse and use violence if it is necessar. We expect some action from you

We must stop the american invation in europe, fight for a unite europe and destroy usa.

The only reason that we learned about this story here in Athens is the fact the man arrested is greek. As I read above, many others in England have suffered similar violations of basic human rights, because of the new anti-terrorist act. It will not be long before this act is implemented in Greece, especially since the anti-terrorist hysteria has taken over the greek state. You must organise a massive support of this student and of all the others that basically being arrested, detained, or prosecuted for their ideas and political beliefs. There are clearly NO evidence linking him to any terrorist activity, so it is fair to assume that merely the possesion of relevant books or articles is considered by the autrhorities as "evidence". This is unacceptable and quite terrifying. All you people who read Sartre, Marx, Lenin, Bakunin or articles about RAF, the Red Brigades, IRA etc, etc, etc, should be affraid... beacuse, who knows, they might come knocking on YOUR door one day. We must protect ourselves, we must stop this insanity. Please support this student when he appears in court on Tuesday.

the line

i think that what's going on is that the line of what is acceptable and what is unacceptable to say in public has moved in such a way that there's very little space left for non-acceptable views and there is a strong punishment for them; the worst of all is that this happened in our democratic societies without us even realising it, i mean with all the 'new anti-terrorist' laws that have been installed in a no-doubt democratic way through our parliaments not only in britain and the us, but also in countries such as greece, spain, etc. it's funny how we tend to forget that hitler was himself voted by his people and that he set in place the structures of absolutism bit by bit slowly through parliamentarian votes and decisions, and that he never simply came out in the balcony one day to say "jews, gypsies, communists, slavs, gays and disabled should all die"
the most disheartening phenomenon is that we have entered a period that seems to be fertile for such conditions of intolerance and oppression to get installed again (unless you believe that the only ones that are capable of oppressive absolutism are the germans, as there's something in their genes) and we - supporters of free expression and diversity - neither notice it, nor do we oppose it; on the contrary, and as a spanish newspaper has put it, resistance to absolutism has been overwhealmed not by repression but by the public's excitement and enthusiasm about repression: big brother shows, survivor endurance and body-building programmes have all done their job, so now finally we have the necessary prototypes to support repression tactics, as being superior (in mind and body) legitimates one wanting to impose his principles; and that's what it's all about, it's about imposing principles, been intolerant about other's principles and values that is inherently wrong in this situation: only yesterday the guy who prepared the documentary on 'world leaders' was arguing on the bbc nothing less than that the un is useless as it does not allow us (the british) to put into practice what WE know is right (get rid of the oppressor sadam) and nobody even though of asking him "so, what does it mean when angola or china or guinea or russia think that doing a war against iraq is wrong? shouldn't their view (vote) have the same and equal weight as the british view? do they know less than we do? are they less capable of deciding what's right and what's wrong? less mentally capable perhaps? who are you to decide what's happening in iraq by ignoring the views of those people who have been internationally appointed to say what's happening (the un inspectors)? is it that you know better?"
this greek guy's drama (and by drama i mean that he has stayed and is going to stay in prison - potentially for 10 more years - for been considered suspicious for doing something - writting to an e-list? having newspaper extracts in his flat? - the motives of which have not yet been proved to be criminal, something like a crime of thought; or to put it differently that one nice day it was decided that this person has to prove to all of us that he is innocent) is not about his crushed personality and future, his mother crying and not understanding why, his family stigmatised and having to explain, things that i'm sure that those who arrested him consider minor details in their big crusade against terrorism, exactly as sharon considers 11 more palestinian dead as the minimum quota that
has to be sacrificed today in his people's quest for identity and existence; it's not about limitting terrorism it's about extending it by spreading the word that there are things you can say buster, and there are other things that we'll bust you if you say, because they don't serve our purposes, and if you happen to be on our way for any reasons of yours (e.g. you think war with iraq is bad) then be sure that we are coming for you if you start creating real trouble(nothing less than an Orwellian state)
and if what i say - no matter the fact that i openly state that i do not support terrorism, wherever it comes from - is something that makes someone(police, state, government, etc.) feel that they want to come for me, then please don't waste your time with trying to find out about me: just send me an e-mail in the address above, and i'll come myself; it's just that today, i felt like communicating my opinion to others on something that troubles me: i wonder what you think and feel guys?
