Koteka Prisoner Support

This Thursday and Friday (6th & 7th) we are going to have a Prisoner Support phoning session. Here's the experience of one Papuan prisoner who people supported by phoning the prison and asking questions:
"I was being kept in pitch black in an overflowing toilet. I was cuffed at my hands and feet and in constant fear of my food being poisoned. After two weeks the guards pulled me out and asked me why all these people were phoning and enquiring about me. They looked scared and I told them that now the world is watching them. I was returned to my cell but they now cleaned it, put a light in and removed the cuffs. Further support led to better and better conditions which has contributed to the fact that I am alive to tell this story now. It made me feel stong to hear people outside were supporting me."

Two West Papuans are currently being held in the Abepura prison and are on trial in the local court. They were arrested on 6th December 2002 in an OPM camp and are being charged with making homemade weapons. We are going to have a telephone ringing session on Thurs and Friday (6th & 7th) for them. Just ring the prison phone and mention their names. Some suggested Indonesian phrases are listed below.

It is best to phone when it is day there (they are 9.5 hours ahead of UK) so Thurs or Friday around midnight or first thing in the morning from UK. However the phone will be answered 24 hours so just ring when you can.
