Stop & Search in the London's West End

Stop & Search powers?

I have witnessed over the past few weeks quite a heavy police presence in the West End of London; groups of cops harassing people by stopping and searching them around the Tottenham Court Road and Leicester Square area. Are there any legal experts out there who could inform me as to what (legal)powers the cops have to stop & search people?

Unless you are stopped and searched under the Prevention of Terrorism Act or the related Crime, Terrorism and Security Act (think thats the official name of the 2001 Terror Bill) under subsection (??? maybe someone can help on that) you NEVER HAVE TO GIVE YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS TO THE POLICE

The ONLY time you need to give your name and address is when you are ARRESTED or have committed a parking/road offence

The cops will always try to weedle/bully information out of people in order to scribble it down into their little notebooks of criminalisation

If you see people getting stopped and searched, inform them they DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE THEIR NAMES OR ADDRESSES. SUS laws have so much to answer in terms of victimising people, especially people of colour. Just remember Brixton circa 1985 onwards and Operation EagleEye in the East End. SUS is their tactic of intimidation. Knowing your rights is your defence and undermines that intimidation. Fight back and help others fight back.
