Anita Roddick to Lead
“Virtual March on London”
Impressed with the success of last week’s “Virtual March on Washington,” Anita Roddick, OBE has launched a similar campaign to flood Parliament and Number 10 Downing Street on 10 March with phone calls, faxes and emails on from citizens calling for a peaceful solution to the standoff with Iraq.
An estimated million people participated in the United States’ first-ever “virtual” march on 26 Feb. Switchboards around the Washington D.C. area were lit up for 12 hours straight; the White House’s phone system was reportedly jammed and inoperative for part of the day. That action was coordinated by Win Without War and MoveOn.org.
Hoping to duplicate that resounding success, Roddick has called for a “Virtual March on London,” in which Britons call, fax, or email their MPs and Tony Blair to register their opposition to war in Iraq. The theme of the campaign is “Jam Number 10 on the 10th,” the object being to create such a critical mass of calls that the communications systems of 10 Downing and Parliament are at least temporarily overwhelmed.
“Millions of us marched in London on 15 Feb, but still it seems that the Powers That Be in one of the world’s great democracies are not listening to their constituents,” Roddick said. “What do we have to do to get Tony Blair’s attention? This is a modest proposal to make a peaceful, but powerful statement that is impossible to ignore.”
On her website (anitaroddick.com), Roddick provides instructions for how to get involved, from how to look up your MP to sample scripts to use when calling, faxing, or emailing Parliament or Blair. Roddick also suggests contacting Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, who has been an outspoken supporter of Blair’s plans for war.
“I invite that majority of Britain which opposes this war to join me on March 10 to raise our voices as one, once again,” Roddick said. “We can still hold out hope that at some point, even politicians can grow ears and consciences.”

Another plug attempt?

Anybody else would have merely direct or re-direct the information without a plug.
It is a great idea (of someone else's - can't even remember the name, but it is not Roddick and not even associated with her).
We can do the same to Bodyshop - we should force it to accept unions and to stop using cult-like "training" methods on its staff.

fairynuff dick but...its still a GOOD IDEA!

Here's what you do:
First, find out who your MP is by clicking this link,
http://www.locata.co.uk/commons/
or check out
http://www.faxyourmp.com
or
ring the House of Commons switchboard directly on 0207 219 3000 and ask who yours is.
(For a list of the Labour MPs who defied Blair, click here. Call them and congratulate them on their courage!)
To locate a Peer in the House of Lords, ring the switchboard directly on 0207 219 3107.
You may contact Tony Blair on 0207 270 1234 (then press 3) or fax him your message on 020 7925 0918.
To contact Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, ring 0207 270 1500 or fax 0207 839 2417.
Before you call, write down a simple statement you'd like to deliver to the people you will call, fax, or email. For example:
Hello, my name is ____ _______. I am a British citizen and a constituent, and I am asking you, as an elected official in a position of power to oppose the proposed US-and-UK-led preemptive war on Iraq. I am asking that you work toward a peaceful solution to the stand-off with Saddam Hussein. I believe he can be disarmed without war. Let the inspections work. Give negotiation a fair go.
Finally, I am asking, as a voter, that you do everything in your power to seek peace and not war. And if you do not, I will do everything in my power to oppose your political career.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME
YOUR FULL ADDRESS
YOUR POST CODE
Sometime between 8am and 5pm on 10 March, call, fax, or email your message to Parliament, the Office of the Foreign Secretary, and Tony Blair.
And spread the word! Email your friends and get them to commit to participating.
