Details of Manchester Peace Camp. Peace Gardens, Saturday March 8th

PEACE CAMP

We have permission off Manchester City Council to put up tents on the grass in the peace gardens near Albert Sq. and behind town hall at the weekend of the Manchester demonstration i.e. Sat 8 th March. Meet up at 9am in the Peace Gardens.

It is the start of the peace movement having a permanent presence in the city.....
The idea is to start Sat in the morning till at least Monday Morning

We had a meeting yesterday and few ideas to share with you
A few rules for the camp have been decided :
No alcohol, no drugs!
No selling of any Kind (including political party stuff)!
No organised amplified Sound Systems!

Yes to making our own music, creativity, talking, sharing information, making things, planning new activities!!!!!!!!!!

Next meeting Thursday 6th March at the Albert Square pub in Albert Square 7.30 pm

The most important thing is that it will be our Peace camp, the camp of the people who are going to be there!!
These ideas are only suggestions!!!

banners We are going to work together making banners and placards for the following events

We want to create a space dedicated to life in peace ( feel free to bring anything you will use as a symbol of life - everyday items, kids items, photo or any memory from your country if you are from other country and U are living here) coord. Ioanna 07879472010

We would like to launch ideas about what we can do day by day to resist the war and be visible like the white ribbons, the flicking lights at 8 pm, the message railway tags, flags and posters in the windows......

We would like to have an information point (if U collected articles or other material put everything in folders, label it with your name and a contact number not to lose it and bring it to the camp)

We would like to have workshops and talks - A different world is possible (from genova, Florence Porto Allegre), Foil the base, Direct actions, Bojcott Campagne, Palestine - if you are interested in talking about these or other issues please contact Loukas who is trying to provide a very flexible agenda (number above)

We would like to build up a group to guarantee the rotation at the camp after the w/e

We would like to write with our naked bodies Peace- No War in Manchester on Sunday.

We would like to have live music Feel free to come when you want all Sunday and Saturday after the march Hannah is trying to coordinate this part of the activities in a very flexible way contact her 0161/2327271

We would like to have soldiers who had the terrible experience of being at war in the second and in the Gulf War and can talk about it, about the disease which brought already 10.000 soldiers to death! Peter is organizing it If you have information and contacts than please call him 0786 6006449

Most of all we woulld like to experience that a different world is possible


Whether you would like to drop in for half an hour or sleep over or help in other ways
bringing food, coffee and tea, hot soups, folding tables and chairs, benches, candles of any sort, white bedsheets, info-materials, leaflets, camplights, art stuff, ideas..................
