1) FAIRFORD NATIONAL DEMO: SAT 22nd MARCH 2003
Time: 12:00noon - 5:00pm
Assemble: 12:00noon on the junction of High St/Park St.
Procession: To main gate of USAF Fairford for Weapons Inspection.
RELATED WEBSITE:  http://www.gwi.org.uk
USAF Fairford (in Gloucestershire) can now house the U.S B2 Stealth bombers. In tests the B2 has released B61 & B83 mini-nuclear weapons. The B61 is for use against deeply buried targets (like Iraqi bunkers). The B83 is a strategic free-fall nuclear bomb. These are the first of a new generation of `more usable' nuclear bombs. The U.S wishes to use British soil to house these weapons of mass destruction, placing the UK in the frontline of the US war for oil. Local protest in Spain deterred the deployment of B2's there. We must do the same here. DEMONSTRATE!

4) FAIRFORD & NVDA
Fairford is becoming a focus for NVDA (non-violent direct action). If you wish to take part in NVDA you should be prepared to take full responsibility for your own actions,
& not involve others against their will. It is strongly suggested that you link up with an experienced group who can provide support & training. It is vital that actions are entirely non-violent, otherwise the peace movement risks losing the wide public support now enjoyed.

5) MENWITH HILL NATIONAL DEMO: SAT 22nd MARCH 2003
FOIL THE BASE AT MENWITH HILL SPY BASE
Menwith Hill (North Yorkshire) is the largest electronic monitoring station in the world. Run by the US National Security Agency (NSA) & operating as US sovereign territory. It picks up communications from satellites covering the Middle East. It even won an award for its eavesdropping in the last Gulf War. Menwith is also a key base for the project of long-term military aggression - 'Star Wars'. To 'foil the base' (disrupt the satellite signal receivers) there has to be as much foil in the air as possible. Bring foil kites, foil balloons, foil puppets, use your imagination.

This is both insulting & untrue. The only people at fairford apart from protesters are the police. Violence involves an imbalance of power not simply an act of aggression. The above assumes the police have the right to act in any way they choose whereas we do not. 'nvda' negates any act of self-defence. I for one will not allow a copper the opportunity or the right to physically assault me or any person on the demonstartion. Morals are lethal in the hands of the moralistic. Let us hope the people who go to fairford continue to behave as the vast majority of the population would behave (& not the middle england media myth the peace movement are pandering to) in those circumstances & defend themselves against the attacks of the police.
Violence is not what you do but what you fear.

burning fluff

Oh no, not the violence/non-violence debate!

27.02.2003 16:56

I must say that the people organising the demo at Fairford cannot impose their own idea of non violent direct action (NVDA) on other people attending. If I see anyone being arrested or brutalised by a copper I will free to intervene in a manner i see fit.

This is a war. People will get hurt, in Iraq and here. Asd an anti-war movement, surely we intend to do our best to either stop the war or fuck up the military-industrial complex, hit their profits, scare their investors etc. Getting your face smashed in and your mates nicked out of some pious, Starhawkish version of NVDA is simply madness (in my humble opinion).

This all said, we should endeavour to remain united where we can. By all means, let those that will not defend their comrades march and shout: but please have the courtesy to let those of us who wish to act directly do so without fear of being grassed up as "bad protesters".

Rant over. See you on 22nd March.

It's just a legal disclaimer

28.02.2003 13:02

This is a standard legal disclaimer, & the 'blah, blah, blah' response to it which fails to recognise the nature of a basic legal disclaimer was fully expected.

"you should be prepared to take full responsibility for your own actions, & not involve others against their will"

Do what you want & take full resonsibility for it, just make sure you don't pull in others against their will.

This ranting violence/non-violence debate is dull.

Basic stuff.
