The four activists who blocked the runway at Brize Norton RAF base yesterday, in an attempt to prevent troops fom leaving to the Gulf, were released at 9pm last night charged with that old chestnut aggravated trespass.

The activists got onto the base by climbing over a wooden fence at one end of the runway and blocked the runway for two hours by 'locking on' using metal arm tubes. A Tristar aeroplane that was about to land when the activists arrived on the runway had to be diverted to RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire.

"Getting onto the base was easy" said one of the activists "We recommend everyone tries this at home. If a fraction of the estimated 2 million people that attended the march in London did similar actions at their local bases the war would become unworkable."

The Brize Norton 4 are due to appear at Witney Magistrates Court on 27th March.
